Antonio Lizana Quintet Flamenco Jazz

Flamenco vocals, jazz saxophone and Andalusian rhythms converge in a performance by Antonio Lizana and his quintet. Two shows take place Saturday, March 6, in the Black Box Theater at The Moss Center, bringing audiences close to the ensemble’s interplay of traditional flamenco and contemporary jazz. A native of San Fernando in Cádiz, Spain, Lizana is a singer, saxophonist and composer whose music moves between flamenco, hard bop and pop influences. He has performed in more than 30 countries and collaborated with musicians including Arturo O’Farrill, Alejandro Sanz, Marcus Miller, Chano Domínguez, Alfredo Rodríguez and Ari Hoenig. The program highlights Lizana’s ability to shift between expressive cante flamenco, improvisation and melodic ensemble passages, creating a sound rooted in southern Spain while open to a broad range of jazz traditions.
