About this event
Ikoum is a Montreal-based duo formed by Just Wôan (Cameroon) and Wolfville Nova Scotia's Kamila Nasr. Driven by a shared curiosity for sonic exploration and cross-cultural exchange, their work weaves language, heritage, and experimentation into a singular musical vision. At the heart of their music lies a rare and hypnotic dialogue between electric bass and Celtic harp. Together, Ikoum creates an intimate and immersive musical experience, blending world jazz, poetic song with African, and Eastern influences. Sung in Bafia, English, and Dari (Afghan language), their music transcends borders and speaks directly to the senses. Just Wôan, a Cameroonian singer, bassist, and multi-instrumentalist, carries a voice of remarkable range and depth, effortlessly moving between resonant low tones and luminous high notes. His musical journey has taken him to major international stages including the Montreux Jazz Festival, Blue Note Tokyo, and the Montreal International Jazz Festival, where his artistry has been praised for its emotional power and originality. Kamila Nasr, a Canadian harpist, singer and multi-instrumentalist of Afghan heritage, brings a gentle, velvety voice and a refined musical sensibility shaped by years of artistic life across Brazil, China, and Canada. She has performed in stadiums and festivals across China with China’s biggest rock and progressive rock artists. Her harp playing weaves luminous, flowing textures that invite contemplation and trance. Check out their videos: https://ikoum.com/videos
