Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

Contemporary choreography and signature works from the Ailey repertory come together as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to the Adrienne Arsht Center. Presented Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20 as part of the Dance at Arsht series, the program pairs new work by today’s choreographers with pieces that have helped define the company’s artistic legacy.

Founded in 1958, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is known for a repertory that blends modern dance, ballet and African American cultural traditions. The Miami performances will include Revelations, Ailey’s landmark 1960 work set to spirituals, gospel and blues, alongside newer choreography that reflects the company’s continued focus on expanding contemporary dance.

The engagement offers a broad view of the company’s range, moving between historically rooted repertory and recent works created for a new generation of Ailey dancers.
