Iset Sankofa forges ahead of the turntable constellation with a stunningly refreshing kinda sound. This is the 'all genres considered' milieu... where dusty Malian Blues takes a night stroll with Dub, Naija hip hop flirts dangerously with Kingston Dancehall grit,  and bubbly Brazilian Electronica steams a peace pipe with Afro-Jazz futurism. 
 
For this self-described 'bird', she is always reaching beyond the beyond and fetching back what she terms as musical source-code. In that, we can find a song or a groove so undeniable in it's appeal that it not only builds on the idea of the universality of music but of sound itself. Her musical selections have a way of running past the dance-able and the obvious. Usually, the next stop is a bold convergence of history and magic - one that playfully wields the listener into the lush, downright sensuous terrain that music can be. 
 
For Sankofa, hers is an imagined and realized terrain where digital divides are effortlesly bridged in 128 BPMs and new music lifts a hat to traditional sounds via a kind of time-travelling-self-discovering-remixing sort of aesthetic.

Reaching for the Moon (Portuguese: Flores Raras) is a 2013 Brazilian biographical drama film. The film is based on the book Flores Raras e Banalíssimas (in English, Rare and Commonplace Flowers), by Carmem Lucia de Oliveira.

The film dramatizes the love story of the American poet Elizabeth Bishop and Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares.[2] Set largely in Petrópolis between the years 1951 and 1967, the story coincides with the emergence of Bossa Nova and the development of Brazil's capital, Brasilia. The film tells the story of Bishop’s passionate and often tumultuous life with Soares in Brazil.

At age 40, the celebrated American poet Elizabeth Bishop met and fell in love with a Brazilian woman named Lota de Macedo Soares. The two lived together in Brazil from 1951 to 1967. Novelist Oliveira's engaging dual biography tells of their "long and sad" relationship. Because most of the letters between the lovers were destroyed, Oliveira fills in conversations and personal scenes with a novelistic touch that may irritate those looking for a more precise reconstruction of events. Furthermore, Oliveira, a Brazilian herself, tends to focus heavily on Lota, "a marvel and a terror" whose obsessive desire to fight through Brazilian bureaucracy to build a landmark park in Rio de Janeiro ruined her health and her relationship with Bishop. By contrast, Bishop's personality is much less fully rendered. Nevertheless, this book offers a new perspective on the American poet, and the love story between these two women is undeniably intense and tragic.

TrainFit Club invites you to be part of its dynamic running group "Come Run B4 The Sun"! 

Join us as we build fitness levels and stamina. Our training is also geared toward prepping for organized road races and includes resistance workouts (in the sands, the hills etc.)

We meet every Friday at 4:30am sharp in Kingston for a road run (locations and routes are announced each week). Warm up/cool down with the team and be energized for the day! 

Participation is open to all fitness levels. Drop in for $400 or ask about our membership rates. Fees include coordinator services, biker escort, bottled water, registration and bib collection for road races, sands training and more!
