The Organizing Committee of the Jamaica Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (JABBFA) extends a warm welcome and invitation to all athletes to participate in its Supligen National Championships and Fitness Expo from August 26th – 27th August starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Utech Auditorium.  The 2016 National Championships and Fitness Expo is a national competition sanctioned by the Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (CACBBFF), which is a Continental Branch of the IFBB with 38 affiliated countries and territories. 
All athletes who wish to participate in this event must attend at least one of the Rehearsals in preparations for the Championships, during the sessions the Organizing Committee will sensitize competitors to the running order of the show, appropriate entry and exit of the stage, and other critical elements for an effective performance. Additionally all competitors registration data including categories will be validated and selected athletes measured and weighed

Brief Background on Sound System

The sound system originated in Jamaica in the 1950s as a means to share music with the inner city community who could not afford personal radios. Early pioneers made speaker boxes to amplify the sound from record players and this would attract a crowd. Soon it was recognized that this could be a business venture if they created an enclosed space and charge an entrance fee; which is the long and short of how the dancehall lawn and street dance phenomenon came about. 

And just as ants follows milk, others saw it was a lucrative business and soon there was a thriving sound system industry. Set owners would develop a number of tricks to pull the crowd, as well as to be labelled with the coveted title of 'king sound' aka sound of all sounds. This rivalry led to the creation of the Jamaican music forms, which is another story that wont be told here today. This strive to wear the 'king crown' also led to the development of the infamous art of soundclash. That too is a great story worth telling. Google is your friend. 

Nevertheless, sound system culture has grown beyond the island of Jamaica and has now transformed into a global culture with sound systems from all over the world.  

SoundFEST is an event to celebrate this cultural movement and to recognize the contribution of sound systems to contemporary music forms. However, on the night of the event, all music will be played the 'original' sound system style and fashion; from the amplified speaker boxes of the musical equipment built to play Jamaican music. 

SoundFEST is more than an event. It is a movement to highlight sound system culture with the interest to grow an industry that has often times been overlooked having been born of the creativity of those in a dire situation and continues to be the main source of entertainment for the working class man and woman in Jamaica. 

SoundFEST is the dance of all dances. original dancehall style and fashion. come enjoy the very best of sound system culture. 18 & older.
