Afro-Cuban dance traditions come to life in a weekly class at the Koubek Center led by dancer and master instructor Marisol Blanco. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays in Little Havana, the series introduces participants to the rhythms, movement and cultural traditions that shape Cuban social and folkloric dance. Classes span styles including danzón, mambo, cha cha chá, pilón, mozambique, son and casino, along with Afro-Cuban forms such as rumba in its yambú, guaguancó and columbia expressions. Blanco also incorporates dances connected to Yoruba, Arará, Bantú and Haitian traditions, placing movement within broader histories of music, spirituality and cultural exchange. The ongoing series combines technique with cultural context, giving participants a structured way to explore Cuban dance across multiple traditions and eras.
