About this event
Join us in celebration of a new book, "Memoirs of a Welfare Mother", by Brenda J. Thompson: Brenda is a ninth-generation Nova Scotian writer, researcher and publisher. Her latest book, Memoirs of a Welfare Mother, recounts her years as a young single mother on social assistance in Dartmouth and the political storm that followed after Social Services Minister Edmund Morris disclosed confidential information from her file. Brenda took Morris to court—and won. Her memoir explores poverty, motherhood, welfare stigma and the politics surrounding those who rely on social assistance.
