Arizona Musicfest, in collaboration with the Herberger Theater Center, is excited to present one of the most beloved American musicals of all time, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel. This iconic work celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2025.Featuring unforgettable songs including “If I Loved You” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” this timeless Broadway classic has been praised for its poignant storyline, memorable characters, and unforgettable score. Rarely heard in its original full-scale orchestration, Arizona Musicfest’s concert production, with limited theatrical elements, showcases the music above all else. Set in a seaside town in Maine, Carousel follows the love story of Billy Bigelow, a handsome but troubled carousel barker, and Julie Jordan, a young mill worker. It is the enduring tale of love, redemption, and the struggle to find our place in the world.


Carousel, A Concert will feature the 45-piece Musicfest Pops Ensemble (Josh Condon, conductor) and a starry line-up of world class soloists including Erica Spyres from Broadway’s 2018 revival of Carousel as Julie Jordon, and acclaimed Broadway, TV and film actor James Snyder as Billy Bigelow.  The work’s sweeping symphonic splendor will fill the Herberger Theater for three performances only.

Beethoven’s ninth and final symphony, premiered years after illness left the composer completely deaf, revolutionized the symphonic form with vocal soloists and a chorus joining the orchestra to sing his setting of Friedrich Schiller’s poem “Ode to Joy,” celebrating the brotherhood of all humanity. Premiered 200 years ago with Beethoven seated beside the conductor facing the orchestra, at its conclusion, one of the soloists turned the composer around to see the thunderous applause he no longer could hear. Tito Muñoz leads four vocal soloists, The Phoenix Symphony Chorus and orchestra in this orchestral masterpiece. 


Praised for his versatility, technical clarity, and keen musical insight, Tito Muñoz is internationally recognized as one of the most gifted conductors on the podium today. After 10 years as the Virginia G. Piper Music Director of The Phoenix Symphony, Tito’s tenure, one of the longest in the organization’s history, concluded at the end of the 2023-24 season.
